What kind of clothes should I bring?

  • 2 pairs of pants
  • 2 pairs of jeans
  • 2-3 pairs of shorts
  • 6 T-shirts or short-sleeved shirts
  • 4 dress shirts
  • 1 pair of tennis shoes
  • 1 pair of dress shoes
  • 1 pair of sandals
  • 1 pair of soccer shoes (if you play)
  • 1 swimsuit
  • 1 sweater
  • 1 light jacket
  • 6 pairs of socks
  • 8 pairs of underwear

What else should I bring?

  • If you play an instrument, and it's small, bring it. The ESL program also has one guitar.
  • Sheet music with words

You may also wish to bring the following:

  • Artifacts from your country or from your specific culture such as:
    • Instruments
    • Masks
    • Native clothing
    • Money
    • Stamps
    • Photos of family, work, community
    • Posters
    • Toys
    • Artwork
    • Cassettes or CDs of favorite music
    • Postcards of your country
    • Prayers or stories from your culture
    • A dictionary in your own language

How long is the summer program?

  • There are two sessions:
    • The first session is from July 1st to August 15, 2008.
    • The second session is from August 25 to October 9, 2008.

What are the dates for the yearly program?

  • There are two semesters:
    • SHST Fall semester begins August 25, 2008 to December 5, 2008.
    • SHST Spring semester begins January 12, 2009 and ends May 1, 2009.

How much money should I bring?

  • Plan to bring what you need for your personal expenses; about $200-$300 American for field trip and other incidental costs.
