Sacred Heart School of Theology offers a unique English as a Second Language Program as a service to priests, seminarians, brothers, sisters, missionaries, and lay ministers who wish to acquire language proficiency for Roman Catholic ministry in an English-speaking environment.

The ESL program emphasizes:

  • Appropriate grammar usage
  • Accent reduction
  • Effective writing and reading skills
  • Accurate pronunciation in daily conversations, preaching, liturgical presiding, and counseling situations
  • Strong listening and speaking skills
  • Multicultural awareness and assimilation
  • Preparation for TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)

The ESL program offers:

  • Small personal classes designed for the mature learner
  • Individualized attention for each student
  • Opportunities to interact with students and the community
  • Use of computers in the classroom
  • Quiet academic atmosphere
  • Cultural field trips
  • Participation in daily liturgical life in the school
  • Academic Writing Classes

Sacred Heart School of Theology is accredited by two agencies:

  • The Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada (ATS)
  • The Higher Learning Commission: A Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
