Student WorkStudent Writings from Sacred Heart School of Theology's The ESL Times / December, 2001 "A Retired Bridge: an ESL Field Trip Account" In October the ESL Program went on a field trip to Cedarburg, a town North of Milwaukee. One of the things we saw was a covered bridge - one of the few still surviving in Wisconsin. Almost 150 years after being built, the Cedarburg Bridge survives today as a landmark. Its rare type of construction has been preserved because the Ozaukee County Board in 1940 voted to preserve this covered bridge as an historic monument. The official marker placed on May 23,1965 reads: This message is an invitation to appreciate the bridge and to remember the people who used to travel on it. They worked hard to have better conditions for those living today. This is also a challenge for all of us every day to make the world a better place for those who come after us.
