Remembering the Annual ESL Cultural Fair
By: Octavio Trejo Flores
(Mexico)

picture of displaysThe Cultural Fair was an experience that permitted every student in ESL Program to show off their country’s traditions, food, drink, and music. At the same time, it was an opportunity for the seminarians that study here at Sacred Heart to get to know about the ESL students and their countries.

I am from Mexico and this is first time I am away from my country. I had the chance to share information about my country at the Culture Fair. I prepared some Mexican appetizers such as guacamole with chips and traditional candy. Mexican music is known around the world, so of course we turned on some music! We were very busy during the Cultural Fair because we continually made the most popular Mexican cocktail, margaritas! The people really enjoyed trying this prepared drink,

picture of studentsFor me, this event was a way to feel at home – as though I were back in Mexico - because I was surrounded by Mexican food, drink, and people enjoying my culture.

I think this Fair was very successful to others though too, because I heard from many people how much they liked the food, the drinks, and all of the information provided.
