My Family
By:  Juan Manuel Camacho
(Columbia)

picture of treesMy family lives in a small town in Colombia; its name is Valle de San Jose. It is a place where coffee grows. It is in the middle of the Andes Mountains. My town is famous because there are many plantations of coffee, sugar cane, and orange trees. There are also cows, horses, pigs, goats, and chickens. My family is a traditional farming family.

My family has five people; there is my dad, my mother, my sisters and me. My father is a great person. He supported me when I decided to come to the USA. However, he was a little bit scared because he was worried about my English ability. He asked me, “What are you going to do when you arrive in the U.S.? You do not know anything about English. How will you live in your community house?” However, at the same time, he was happy because I was thinking about the priesthood. My mother and sisters agreed with my decision. All of them are very happy now because everything is going fine here.

Currently, I am a missionary, and I am expecting to become a priest. I think that this is a very good
reason for my family to be happy and agree able with my decision. In my culture, it is very important for families who have a member of the family studying to become a priest to be supportive of their loved ones. Everything is fine between my family and me.
