The Spitfire Grill
By: Mario Toledo Guzman
(Mexico)

Have you sometimes been a stranger, or have you received sometimes strange people in your home? “The Spitfire Grill” is an SCJ-sponsored movie that teaches us a good lesson about strangers. There are sometimes when you want to start a new life and when you need to find a place to restart. But, the story may turn out differently from what you thought at first because you maybe have not considered other people. The story of Percy Talbot has the same feelings, but it does not have the end that you maybe would wish.

Percy wanted to forget her past, so she arrived in a new town to begin a new life. She had been in prison for five years. In the new town, she got a job, and a house working and living with an old woman. The old woman had a restaurant. Percy was not a good cook; in fact, she knew nothing about kitchens. She began without experience, and the movie is about the people she met who were helpful for her.

Those who knew only Percy’s past could not see her changing, and they judged her badly so that she began to suffer from their speculations. But, she wanted to show herself that she could live and succeed with this second opportunity. Unfortunately, social prejudices made many difficulties, and The Spitfire Grill is about this problem. It is a good movie – I recommend that you watch it sometime.
