A Trip to Madison
By:Oscar A. Martinez
(Colombia)

picture of Madison, WiThis semester I went to Madison with my teachers and my classmates. Madison is the capital city of the state of Wisconsin, and it is located west of Milwaukee. It is a beautiful city, and it is located between two lakes - Monona and Mendota. Madison is a university city, and there are many university students and people representing many cultures living there.

We visited the Capitol building, and a tour guide taught us about the building’s history, construction, and art. After that, we went to the University of Wisconsin to visit and to eat ice cream made by the students. This university is the biggest university that I have ever seen. After we finished eating the ice cream, we went to visit different stores on State Street. I went to a clothing store, a shoe store, and a book store. During this time I felt good and relaxed. I liked Madison, especially when we walked around State Street. I can’t explain exactly why, but I really liked the atmosphere of the city.

Whenever I go to different places with different people, I learn so much about the United States and about its culture, history, and people. For me, this is a wonderful country. I feel good because I have a broader vision about the different people, different cultures, and about the world from coming here.
