A Trip around the United States
By: Jan Szylar, CM
(Poland)

Ten years ago, in July, I went on vacation in the USA. I went on a trip from Brooklyn, NY to Denver, CO. I was with two busloads of young people and we were traveling to Denver for World Youth Day.

The trip took us eight days. During the trip, we visited many interesting places. On the way to Colorado, we stopped in Missouri and saw the Gateway Arch and the St. Louis Art Museum.

We spent three days in Denver enjoying the World Youth Day activities. We attended three masses, and one was celebrated by Pope John Paul II. The highlight of the trip was to see Pope John Paul II. As we left Colorado, we also stopped to see the Rocky Mountain National Park.

On the way back to Brooklyn, NY, we visited the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone National Park in Arizona. Then, we went to Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico. In Memphis, TN, we toured Elvis Presley’s home, Graceland.

I think it was a good time for all of us. The young people and I came back to NY tired but very excited, because our spirits were lifted up. I was glad to get home and rest because we had done many activities on the trip, but I had had a wonderful time. When I went back to Poland, I told my friends and relatives about the beautiful scenery, and the nice people, in the USA.
