The ESL Times / Summer, 2003 Baseball: Milwaukee Style Today, August 8, 2003, was exciting and a lot of fun. I went to Miller Park to watch the Brewers play a baseball game. I went with my fellow ESL students and my three teachers this evening. I invited Angela, my Korean friend, and her children. Angela has a son named Ricky and a daughter named Kathleen. They are so cute. We had a cooked dinner in the parking lot near the baseball stadium. This “tailgating party” is a Milwaukee tradition. Barb prepared hamburgers, sausages on a barbecue, and we had snacks, cookies, drinks, and sodas. We were able to have a good dinner and we had a nice time talking and looking at all the other people having their parties too. After dinner, we all went inside the stadium. I was surprised because the stadium was quite clean and very organized. I did not believe that more than 30,000 people could come there. We had to walk up because our seats were on top of the stadium on the fourth floor. The game, the Milwaukee Brewers versus the Florida Marlins, started when we found our seats and sat down. First, they played the American National Anthem...then, Florida attacked first. The Milwaukee pitcher threw the ball very fast, but the hitter hit the ball. We all watched the game. When the fifth inning was over, Florida was winning. My friend’s son Ricky danced whenever music came on, and when the music ended, he would shout, “The music ends so fast”. Kathleen and Ricky wanted to have ice cream, so Angela and I went down to find an ice cream stand. We bought ice cream and two bags of cotton candy for them. They enjoyed their ice cream while we walked to our seats. when we returned to our seats, we watched the famous “sausage race” and everyone cheered. This time the Polish sausage won! We all got up and sang “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” in the 7th inning stretch, and Ricky was dancing. I danced with Ricky too, and afterwards, we played “Peanut War” with Bruno…we started to throw peanuts at each other. Ricky and Kathleen enjoyed the Peanut War, and I also enjoyed it, but finally Ruth and Barb asked us to stop!!! When he game ended, it was the last inning, and we were all still dancing and playing the Peanut War. I felt sorry that Milwaukee had lost the game, but it was not important anyway, as I enjoyed the night at the game. I have had a lot of stress lately, but after the game, I felt that I had no stress! I felt really good and happy. I appreciate the lovely teachers Ruth, Michael, Brooke, for taking us to the game, and I think Barb prepared a delicious meal. Kathleen, Ricky, Angela, the other ESL guys, and I had a really “wonderful, wonderful” time!!!
