Our Chicago Field Trip
By: Denny Wahyudi
(Indonesia)

On Sunday, August 3, after supper, we went to the museums in Chicago. Heading from SHST at 8 pm, we went to the theology SCJ house on 53rd street. The house was very big with about 50-60 rooms. On Monday morning, I woke up early, had Mass, presided by Father Paul. Afterwards, we had breakfast, and we visited the Field Museum. This museum is on Lake Michigan. There were many things that I saw and was interested in, and I took a picture in front of Sue’s skeleton, the world’s largest, most complete, and most famous T. Rex Dinosaur. For 67 million years her bones had lain buried in rock, but now Sue stands again - right here in the Field Museum. Continuing our field trip, we visited the Shedd Aquarium, which is very close to the Field Museum. After enjoying the beauty of the many sorts of sea creatures there from around the world, I went out with some of the students, and we took a walk through downtown Chicago by Lake Michigan. At 5 p.m. we returned to the 53rd street to have dinner.

On Tuesday, we headed to the Art Museum in downtown Chicago. I found the Hindu and Buddhist objects from Indonesia in the 7th to the 11th century especially interesting. I was very happy to have this opportunity to see the historical hidden treasure of human civilization that was in this museum.

Ending this art museum visit, we took a walk through downtown Chicago to Navy Pier, a place for shopping where there are long buildings consisting of various tourist shops. I took a walk and bought some postcards of Chicago city. Next, we went to the Hancock Observatory. It’s the second highest building in Chicago, after the Sears tower. Even though the weather was foggy, I could see the beautiful scenery of Chicago especially Lake Michigan, and the other high buildings. At 5 p.m. we returned to 53rd street, had supper, and at 7 p.m. we went back to Milwaukee. Good-bye Chicago. I was happy to go on this field trip - thank you to Father Paul and all of the people who helped make it possible for us.
