Life in Our Summer ESL Classes
By:  Carlos E. Camargo
(Colombia)

We have had three weeks in the ESL Program. I’m very glad to be here because the classes are enjoyable. Also, I’m learning fast, and I feel that the method that our teachers are using is very clear, and I think that it’s helping our studies. I think that my understanding is better now. We have a lot of home work, but I understand that it’s good for us.

I like the field trips very much too because they are helping me to understand in another way the culture of this country. My classmates are very studious; and in them, I am finding people with a lot of dedication and with the desire to learn. I like the level where I am, because with my fellow students, I am learning also about their different cultures. I have classmates of different ages and with different interests. The class is entertaining. In my classmates I find also different behaviors according to the person’s age and culture. They are smart, and they want to learn English in a fun way.

I also like Ruth’s teaching style, because with current events, simple things, and her personal experiences, she makes our learning easier. I have learned new expressions like: “Nice talking to you”, and “Thank you, me too.” and these terms help me to communicate outside of our classroom. In general I feel comfortable and happy in the ESL Program. I think it is a good place to learn and an excellent way to become used to the United States and its people.
