My Great Vacation
By: Aventus Ignatius Zaluchu, SX
(Indonesia)
Over our five-week Christmas vacation, we, at the Xaverian house, had many interesting and new experiences. The first week we put up Christmas decorations at our house. We did a lot of things with that. We decorated the Christmas tree and put it in the living room. We put the big Christmas star on the roof and did many things.
On the second week of vacation, we started our trip. We went to Arizona. We traveled by van with eleven people. We visited the memorial monument of victims in Oklahoma City. After that, we continued our trip toward Santa Fe. We passed northern Texas. We stayed in Santa Fe for three days. We visited museums, churches, chapels, galleries, and had mass at the Cathedral every day in the afternoon. We also went to Chimayo, a shrine, where we had Mass at chapel El Nino. We went hiking at Box Canyon and visited the technology museum in Los Alamos, where the Atomic bomb was made in 1945. And, we went shopping at the gift shop. I just bought a pin because I like pins. I always look for pins when I travel.
We went hiking at ‘White House Canyon’ in Chinle. It is the Navajo tribe area. In the middle of the night we had supper at Denny’s and celebrated my 29th birthday. The waitress sang the happy birthday song to me. After that, we continued our trip toward Arizona.
We also went to The Grand Canyon on a three-hour trip. It is a beautiful place. I enjoyed it there and took some pictures. Some of us entered the valley and in the evening we returned to the motel.
After breakfast on December 22nd we went back to Chicago. In the middle of the trip we visited the Petrified Forest Museum. Then, all day and night we stayed in the van until we arrived in Chicago. Finally, on Tuesday, December 23rd at 5 o’clock pm we arrived in our house in Chicago.
In the afternoon on Wednesday, December 24th we went back to Milwaukee by train to celebrate Christmas Eve. That day my trip finished. My trip was great. It was my first experience visiting other places in the USA and having a long trip.
