Our SHST Soccer Team
By: Fr. Kazimierz Ligeza

student pictureIn Milwaukee, a soccer league was organized for men over the age of thirty.

Some of the ESL students formed a soccer team for this league in late October, 2003. The team members were Andy Blaszkowski, as captain/coach, Julius Sunardi, Kazimierz Ligeza, Miquel Alvizurez, Zbigniew Bojar, Dharmanwan Adharius, Pascal Atumissi Bekububo, Aventus Ignatius Zaluehu, Manuel Yanqui Apaza, Eladio Vieyra Gomez, and some men from St. Cyril and Methodius Parishes in Milwaukee.

We must remember to thank Father Paul Reid, SCJ and Sacred Heart School of Theology for sponsoring the team and for providing them with the team uniforms and shin pads necessary for playing the game. The t-shirts were red with the Sacred Heart logo on them, and the shorts were back with white stripes.

The team played in Brookfield, Wisconsin on Wednesday evenings. On December 10th, there was the championship match. That night, the first and second place teams matched up for first place. Sacred Heart came in at second place.

The games were very intense. In one game, Andy suffered an injury with his heel in the first five minutes of the game, but continued to play so that he could finish the game. “The games are very exciting, intense and enjoyable to watch,” as spectator Glenn Krystosek reported. It was a great experience for everyone involved.
