The Field Trip to the Art Museum
By: Fredy Patino, SCJ

art museum pictureIn March the ESL class went on a nice field trip to the Art Museum in Milwaukee which is a good place to see modern art. The musuem is located next to Lake Michigan in an urban area of Milwaukee. This museum was open to the public in 2001 and was designed by a Spanish architect named Santiago Calatrava.

This modern design resembles a ship and is very impressive because it looks like a ship going to the lake with its sails open. When we were inside it, it felt like we were sailing on the lake. This beautiful building has a pavilion with two large wings that open and close twice during the day; they open and close at noon and at six o’clock in the evening.

Inside the building the majority of the exhibitions are about modern art; most of them were made by American artists. The museum also has modern art from Europe; however there are excellent expositions of older art too, and most of them were made by European artists.

Currently, there is an exhibition of the French impressionist Degas. There are 73 bronze sculptures of dancers, horses, and sketches of spontaneous human movements. There are also paintings of dancers on display by Degas. This exhibition is very interesting especially because it is a reflection of the exciting movements involved in dance and a reflection of life. This exhibition tries to show that movement is life.

Finally, I would like to say that our trip to the Milwaukee Art Museum was a good experience, especially for me because I saw new things, and I got to see some interesting art again that I had seen and enjoyed before.
