The ESL Times / Spring, 2005 My First ESL Fieldtrip I will always remember my first ESL field trip at the end of September 2004, just two weeks after my arrival in the USA as a student of English as a Second Language. We were about twenty five or thirty students, accompanied by our teachers. We went first to play Mini Golf. It was my first time miniature golfing. I remember how excited I was by the challenge of playing against my classmates. The golf course was beautiful. Having had lunch, we then next went to the Mayfair Theater located in Milwaukee to watch a movie. The remaining time of the day was reserved to visit some stores and famous places in downtown Milwaukee. In one day, I was lucky to see and appreciate the beauty of one part of the city. I want to thank my classmates and my teachers for that time as they gave me the opportunity to know a little bit about Milwaukee's downtown, and to mainly get an idea about American culture. I realized that American people are a nation of hard workers. I believe that fieldtrips are a good idea for ESL students here at Sacred Heart School. I think that because the ESL students come from many different countries from throughout the world, the fieldtrips help us to know more about a great part of American culture. They also improve the knowledge among students and builds good relationships between the students and the teachers. Finally, my first experience increased my fraternity with my classmates and my teachers, but mostly it aided me to embody a part of American culture.
