Giraffes
By: Br. Nicodemus Ndamo, OSB
(Tanzania)

If I were asked to send one thing to an exhibition, I would choose a giraffe, for the following reasons: a giraffe is a fun animal, a giraffe is a national identity animal, and a giraffe is not a dangerous animal. The disadvantage to take a giraffe to an exhibition is that it is too big. But, overall, I think a giraffe would be a good choice.

The country that has the highest number of giraffes in Africa is Tanzania. Therefore, Tanzania, through its government, has chosen the giraffe to be the national animal. In much official stuff, you will find pictures of this animal. For example, you will find the picture of a giraffe on the money of Tanzania and also in governmental official letters.

Also, the structure of the giraffe is fun to look at. The giraffe has a long neck – it is about seven to twelve meters. Also, giraffes have longs legs that are about five to seven meters. The color of the giraffe is a mixture; it looks like a picture of the map of the world. Sometimes, the animal’s coat is green; and sometimes, it is brown with white lines. It is fun to see giraffes walking as they usually walk slowly and eat by picking leaves off the top of trees.

Moreover, the giraffe is not dangerous at all. It is very friendly to people and to other animals. Giraffes cannot run away even if you walk closer, so many people enjoy going up close to them. I wish that many people have the opportunity to enjoy seeing giraffes.

On other hand, to take giraffes to an exhibition is difficult because giraffes are too big – they are more than six hundred kilograms. So, it will be difficult to take a group of giraffes on a long trip.

In conclusion, I am happy to suggest the giraffe as a representative of my country at the exhibition because giraffes are fun animals, the giraffe is the national identity animal of Tanzania, and the giraffe is also a friendly animal.
