The Milwaukee Cathedral
By: Hugo Londono, SCJ
(Colombia)

The last field trip was very interesting for us because we visited some famous places in downtown Milwaukee. One place was the Milwaukee Art Museum, and the other place was the Cathedral.

The Catholic Church is really beautiful; it has many interesting pieces of Roman and Gothic Art. For example, the Cathedral’s middle point arcs have typical Roman art located on the ceiling which forms a singular structure that contrasts with the Gothic glass windows. This created a Middle Age-like atmosphere.

In the Cathedral, we saw the newly restored interior. It is really beautiful; it is not only fantastic, but it is also a cozy place which is helpful for praying, for meeting with oneself, and for working with the community. If you need to be alone or to reflect about anything carefully, you need to visit the Cathedral, and you will meet your answers and solutions there.

The new changes in the Cathedral are like a mix between the modern and the classic arts, and it is good because its structure can facilitate those changes and still look good.

In conclusion, our field trip was very nice and educational. We learned about culture, and about the art and architecture in downtown Milwaukee. Also, it was a good time to be able to relax and enjoy ourselves with all of the ESL guys.
