TOEFL Accomplishments
Congratulations ESL Students persistent study rewarded
Seven English as a Second Language students at Sacred Heart School of Theology achieved outstanding scores on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) exam in their first attempt.
The TOEFL is one of the most recognized tests used by universities throughout the United States to admit students to course work. It determines if a student whose second language is English has a sufficiently high level of English language ability to be able to successfully study and complete work at the American university level. In Wisconsin a score of 500 assures foreign students of a place at the undergraduate level at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. Sacred Heart School of Theology has the same high standards for foreign students who wish to enter classes.
In December 2001, seven SHST students took the TOEFL exam, and all seven achieved a score of 500 or better. It is very unusual to attain this score on the first attempt. Congratulations to Lam Nguyen and Huong Nguyen, Vietnam; Dario Soto, Leonardo Ariza, Ruben Munoz, Colombia; Julius Letikirich, Kenya; and Carlos Ruiz, Mexico, on their scores and their accomplishment. Their hard work as well as that of their teachers, Ruth MacKechnie and Andrea Hazzard, is applauded.
